Lyrics
Out with the old and in with the new
Like me, this old house has seen plenty of use
Places and faces hung on the walls
The people are strangers; I’ve forgotten them all
The clock on the mantel says quarter to three
For some reason that time should mean something to me
Never once asked for help, though we struggled at times
Life isn’t all kittens and nursery rhymes
I’m a rusted out Buick whose tires are worn
I’ve been a good friend, but my fabric is torn
The motor is willing, but it’s too many miles
Maybe I’ll sit here and rest for a while
Last night I stayed up drinking whiskey and watching the sky
I wished on a star, and we talked until dawn
At daybreak we said our good-byes
I tried drawing circles; I drew squares instead
Straight with good corners; I colored them red
I colored them red, ‘cause I ran out of blue
I guess that I must have been thinking of you
I’m that tired old story we’ve all heard before
But hearing it still brings a smile
I’m a favorite record that’s gone out of style
Stay with me now and we’ll listen awhile
Then I’ll sit here and rest for a while
Out with the old, in with the new
